Lung cancer biomarkers - Where we are and what we need.

چکیده
Lung cancer is at present and will be in future a major problem for societies throughout the world [6, 10]. Although national anti-smoking campaigns may have some effects in the western industrialized world, the aging of the societies there as well as the growing societies in the less developed world and air pollution problems like in China will contribute to a rising incidence of lung cancers [5,7,13]. Whether and how screening projects will lead to an earlier detection of lung cancer is still an open question. Therefore further diagnostic and therapeutic efforts are needed to meet this tremendous challenge. Circulating biomarkers are valuable and informative tools in the management of lung cancer disease [11]. Although they are not helpful in the asymptomatic stage for screening purposes – at least not by a single investigation – they have shown great potential in supporting differential diagnosis, estimating prognosis, monitoring the therapy response and the early detection of recurrent disease [2,4,9,12]:

Expression of Two Basic mRNA Biomarkers in Peripheral Blood of Patients with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Detected by Real-Time RT-PCR, Individually and Simultaneously
Introduction: Although extensive research has been conducted on lung cancer markers, a singular clinically applicable marker has not been found yet. The objective of this study was to evaluate the sensitivity and the specificity of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) mRNA and lung-specific X protein (LUNX) mRNA biomarkers in peripheral blood to detect lung cancer individually and simultaneously. Met...
متن کاملThe role of miRNAs as diagnostic and therapeutic biomarkers in various cancers
According to the growing number of cancer fatalities and the complexity of the disease in diagnosis, prognosis and treatment, here we have reviewed one of the helpful and promising factors in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Micro-ribonucleic acids (miRNAs) are non-coding ribonucleic acids that are evolutionarily conserved and have a length of 18-25 nucleotides. miRNAs control the express...
متن کاملThe Prevalence of P53 Mutations in Laryngeal Cancer in Kerman
Background &Aims: Laryngeal cancer is the second common cancer of respiratory tract, following the lung cancer. Carcinogenesis is a complex multistage process; molecular genetics has provided the evidence that activation of proto-oncogene and loss or inactivation of tumor suppressor genes (TSG) are involved in a large number of malignancies. One of the earliest significant tumor suppressor gene...
متن کاملScenario and future prospects of microRNAs in gastric cancer: A review
Carcinoma of the stomach is one of the major prevalent and principal causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Current advancement in technology has improved the understanding of the pathogenesis and pathology of gastric cancers (GC). But, high mortality rates, unfavorable prognosis and lack of clinical predictive biomarkers provide an impetus to investigate novel early diagnostic/prognostic m...
متن کاملRole of Molecular Biomarkers in Colorectal Cancer
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is amongst the most widespread cancers and is a most common cause of cancer associated mortality universally. Since previous decades, it has been cleared that CRC develops owing to the buildup of a series of genetic and epigenetic changes in the normal colonic epithelium. Regardless of the current development in surgery and therapies, overall survival of end stage CRC pa...
